HOW WE APPROACH THE WORK
Protection and presentation, outside
External decoration is exposed to weather, movement and moisture, so the condition of the surface matters as much as the final colour. G Munn & Son can discuss exterior painting for domestic and commercial properties in its service areas.
The preparation varies with the material. Previously painted timber may need scraping, sanding and repairs; masonry needs assessing for soundness, contamination and moisture; metalwork can need a suitable system for adhesion and protection. Correct product selection and application conditions are important.
Exterior work also needs sensible timing. Rain, surface damp, cold conditions and intense sunlight can affect coatings. We will discuss the scope and what needs checking before the job can be scheduled.
IN THE DETAIL
Considerations beyond the colour
Masonry & render
Condition, existing coatings and any signs of trapped moisture need assessing before repainting.
Exterior timber
Frames, doors, boards and trims require attention to peeling finishes, joints and weather exposure.
Access & conditions
Height, access, safety arrangements and suitable weather windows may influence the work and quotation.
BEFORE WORK BEGINS
From first enquiry to a clear plan.
- Describe the external surfaces and share photographs if possible.
- Review existing coating condition, access and likely preparation.
- Discuss materials, weather dependencies and an appropriate quotation.
GOOD TO KNOW
Exterior painting & decorating: questions answered
Clear answers before you start planning your decorating work.
When is the best time to paint outside?
Suitable dry conditions and the coating manufacturer’s guidance matter more than a calendar date. Read our exterior painting advice for seasonal considerations.
Can you paint exterior woodwork?
Exterior painting enquiries can include timber doors, frames and other suitable painted details. We will need to assess their condition.
Can you paint over flaking paint?
Loose or failing coatings normally need preparation before repainting. Painting straight over them can lead to premature failure.
